Different Types of Acne Scars
Hey FaceTory Fam,
I must say, the most questions we get asked about are concerning acne and acne scars! Totally understandable. We recently talked about the different types of pimples (check out this blog if ya missed it!) And today, we're going to give you an intro to the different types of acne scars that you can get from your pimples.
Like acne, scarring is very common. To be honest, it takes just as long to heal and fade (maybe even longer), but having the right skincare routine can help speed up that process! Let's get to it!
Hyperpigmentation ( A.K.A PIH, or Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation) is caused by an overproduction of melanin and is seen as more of a discoloration of the skin with a black/brown color to the scar.
Redness (A.K.A PIE, or Post Inflammatory Erythema) is caused by the damage and dilation of blood vessels. Rather than a black/brown color, it is the pink/red discoloration of the skin.
Atrophic Scarring looks like indented scars. These scars are categorized as icepicked, boxed, or rolling scars.
Hypertrophic Scarring is the opposite of Atrophic Scarring. So, these scars are raised and is caused by the overgrowth of tissue.
And that's it for our quick lesson! Do you have an idea about which one you tend to experience? I mainly have PIH and PIE. Sigh T^T. Not to worry though, I have some tips about what to do to help heal and fade these scars! Stay tuned for more blogs! ;D
And lastly, before I end this blog, I just wanted to remind you all that scars are completely normal and are nothing you should be ashamed or embarrassed about. They may be hard to deal with but please remind yourself that it is your skin letting you know that it is healing (:
